Description
Old Skool Georgian amber wine, 6 months (destemmed) on the skins in Qvevri as they were used 8000 years ago. Rough orange wine.
Georgia is considered the birthplace of all wine, they were already making wine about 8000 years ago. However, there were only two wine styles, amber (also called orange wine, orange or skin macerated white), and red.
Amber (always) made from white grapes and red (always) from blue grapes, both with long skin maceration. The longer on the skin the more body, structure, color and tannin (exceptions aside). In Georgia wine is still made in the traditional way by crushing grapes and putting them in a large qvevri (amphora) and therefore also leaving them on the skin for a long time. There are also Georgian amber wines where the stems also ferment, these are very strong wines that are very high in tannin (bitter) that leave the mouth completely dry.
The Rkatsiteli has been on the skins (without stems) for 6 months and is a classic style of Georgian amber wine on qvevri.
