Scherer & Zimmer
6 products
In 2010 the young dogs Micha Zimmer and Felix Scherer started a small domain in Bad Krozingen, Baden.
Building a life in Baden, they themselves had not seen that coming. Years earlier, the two friends had left for Berlin to study and to adopt the metropolitan life. A disappointment, as it turns out later. Blood is thicker than water and so they soon decide to go back home, to start a wine business together. Felix's parents already have a few grapes, next to the asparagus and sunflower fields. That is the basis with which they start. The old pigsty is converted into a cave, more fields are planted, the men show courage and initiative. (A few years later - read winter 2024 - we are welcomed in a brand new building: a wine cellar, loading area, office and tasting room in one. Business is going well, impressive!)
With Felix as vineyard manager and Micha as head of the cellar, they have found their way. The vineyards are planted with Gutedel, Spätburgunder, Graubugunder, Weissburgunder, Müller-Thurgau and Sauvignon Blanc. They work biodynamically. The conversion to biodynamic work is made quickly, purely because of the quality and high sense of responsibility.
They are experimenting with a form of vineyard management that requires very little pruning. It saves labor and makes the vineyard a more natural environment. It seems to work well, especially with Müller-Thurgau.
Micha and Felix are part of a new generation of young winemakers in Baden, who do not take themselves too seriously ('We absolutely do not want to be elitist') but their craft all the more. A small wine revolution is emerging there in southern Germany: high-quality but accessible wine is being made, as 'drinking pleasure for all generations', without fuss but with lots of taste.
