Pittnauer Winery
Weingut Pittnauer is a high-end, natural & different Austrian winery. Gerhard and Brigitte Pittnauer took over 3.8 hectares of vineyards from Gerhard's parents in 1994. They live and work near Gols, right on Lake Neusiedl. A few years later they joined the local winegrowers' club 'Pannobile'. As if they were a family, everyone there shares their thoughts and critical notes. The wines of Pittnauer are (partly because of this) getting better and better. The company slowly grew into the characterful weingut it is today. Or as the couple themselves put it: 'We are a Weingut, because our wein is gut'. Despite its world fame, it remains a small winery. Gerhard is the visionary, Brigitte the realist, around her only a handful of employees and occasionally the kids who help out.
Feel
In 2006, the transition to biodynamic agriculture began. It was also the starting signal to work more minimalistically in the cellar. One year later, in 2007, Gerhard and Brigitte were the co-initiators of 'Respect', an international club with leading biodynamic wineries.
Biodiversity and plant and animal wealth everywhere in the vineyards. Good for the natural balance, But also because Gerhard and Brigitte simply feel good about it.

Mindset
Despite all the 'clubs', the Pittnauertjes remain independent types. They withdraw from everything that is 'normal'. There are already more than enough normal things. Things that go as they should or as expected. 'We have nothing against that. But not really much for it either'.

They love improvisation and spontaneity, it is more important than predictable perfection. It gives joy of life but also requires flexibility, an uncomplicated approach and living in the here and now. With this attitude they become known as distinctive and skilled. For first-class natural wines you need not only a different mindset, but also a different set of skills.
